Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale is a perfect getaway
whether you want to relax on a premium beach, enjoy the outdoor
activities or widen your horizons and learn something new. "The
Venice of America" as Fort Lauderdale is often nicknamed due to
its extensive canal system truly offers anything you could wish for
from world-class restaurants, excellent museums and art galleries, a
lively nightlife, great shopping malls, cultural and natural
attractions and an endless choice of outdoor activities. The main
attraction of this amazing place are definitely its breathtaking
golden sand beaches where you can really recharge your batteries
and enjoy the view of the Atlantic Ocean or take advantage of many
activities they offer including beach volleyball, jet skiing, water
skiing, scuba diving, snorkeling, wind surfing, boating and deep-sea
fishing.
The beachfront promenade is perfect for
cycling, jogging, rollerblading and walking, while an array of shops,
restaurants and sidewalk cafes just across the street offer a great
way to end or start the day at the beach. More shops and boutiques,
restaurants, cafes and nightclubs are in the downtown Fort Lauderdale
where you can also find the Museum of Discovery and Science which is
worth visiting. There you will see the largest living Atlantic coral
reef in captivity, take a simulated trip to the Moon and Mars, learn
more about the everglades and much more. In addition to over 200
exciting interactive exhibits, the museum also includes a
five-story-high IMAX Theater offering entertainment to the entire
family.
If being interested in history you
should take time to visit the Fort Lauderdale History Center and the
Bonnet House built by Helen and Frederic Clay Bartlett in 1920. The
Bonnet House listed on the National register of Historic Places is a
fine example of the Caribbean plantation style and also includes a
beautiful garden and an orchid greenhouse. Another museum worth
visiting is the Museum of Arts located in the heart of downtown Fort
Lauderdale. Its exceptional collection of more than 6,000
contemporary art works, educational program offering art classes and
various special events made it one of the leading cultural
attractions of South Florida.
Nature lovers should not miss the Hugh
Taylor Birch State Park which is just a short walk from the
beachside. The park situated between the Intracoastal Waterway and
the Atlantic Ocean offers you to learn more about the local plants
and wildlife with a kayak or canoe, by foot along two short trails or
bicycle and rollerblades along paved park road. Fort Lauderdale is
also home to the International Swimming Hall of Fame which is an
absolute must-see if being a fan of aquatic sports. There you will
find informations on some the greatest swimmers in history and the
largest collection of aquatic memorabilia in the world.
Fort Lauderdale truly has it all and
you will not regret if spending your vacations in this amazing place.
Whether you intend to relax or party make sure you do not leave the
city before taking a cruise around its Venice-like canals.
